The Johnson City Housing Authority provides housing opportunities for those who are veterans, elderly and/or disabled and homeless youth. Rent is determined by income. Review the information below to learn about eligibility requirements and how to get on the JCHA public housing wait list.

Pre-Applications are available for:

  • 1 bedroom units in Baker Court Apartments (elderly/disabled, homeless youth, veterans)
  • 1 bedroom units in Alan Court (homeless veterans)

Special Care

Veterans needing community residential care, nursing home care, or homeless veterans in need of housing can contact the Mountain Home VA Medical Center for assistance through the Social Work department.

Military Homebuyers

Tennessee Housing Development Agency (THDA) has a special offer, known as “Homeownership for the Brave,” which provides a ½% rate reduction on the current interest rate for Great Choice loans. In addition to the rate reduction, “Homeownership for the Brave” applicants are eligible for optional downpayment and closing cost assistance through the Great Choice Plus second mortgage loan at a 0% interest rate.

Housing for the Elderly

The Johnson City Housing Authority communities include many older adults. Senior citizens may apply for Affordable Housing and Section 8 housing vouchers under standard eligibility rules.

Senior Option Services (S.O.S.)

The JCHA also provides a Senior Option Services or S.O.S. program to help older adults remain independent and comfortable for as long as possible in their own homes.
