During its years of service, the JCHA has connected with other agencies, developed contacts and compiled various types of information for benefitting our residents. Review these external resources and take note of their contents for future reference.
Eastern Eight Community Development Corporation
A nonprofit corporation and certified Community Housing Development Organization, Eastern Eight Community Development Corporation strives to meet housing needs for low to moderate income families in eight Northeast Tennessee counties. The organization provides several programs for assisting JCHA residents, including homebuyer education, financial counseling, help with mortgage pre-approval, continuing homeowner education, and foreclosure prevention and counseling. They also develop and rehabilitate homes, including manufactured housing, and offer a select number of rental properties.
Building Dreams Self-Help Housing Program
During 2015, Eastern Eight brought a self-help housing program called Building Dreams to our area. The program allows qualified applicants to lower the cost of obtaining a new home by providing their own “sweat equity” during the building process. The on-site work that income eligible families do during construction must equal 65 percent of the labor necessary to build the home and enables the families to get low interest loans from USDA Rural Development without a down payment. The organization hopes to help up to 14 families achieve their dreams of homeownership over the next two years.
