About the Department
The Department of Admissions and Occupancy is responsible for receiving and processing all applications for Public Housing and the Section 8 Housing Choice Voucher Program.
The A & O Department is responsible for the screening of prospective resident’s and for determinations as to eligibility for Public Housing and Section 8 Rental Assistance.
The Education and Prevention activities are geared towards increasing resident awareness of the different programs that exist in the community, which will assist the adults in becoming better parents and children to reject illegal drugs. By enhancing the youth experience through presenting recreational, cultural, and other positive activities they would otherwise not be able to experience.
The A & O Department coordinates the offer and assignment of units for applicants and residents receiving new units, issue vouchers and conducts briefings for the Section 8 Program, and offers units to Mod Rehab applicants. A & O Department also conducts the annual and interim recertifications in the Public Housing Program, The Housing Choice Voucher Program, and the Mod Rehab Program.

The Johnson City Housing Authority shall provide decent, safe, and sanitary housing for eligible families in a manner that promotes serviceability, economy, efficiency, and stability of the developments and the economic and social well-being of the tenants through cost-effective use of available resources.

Applying for Housing
The Johnson City Housing Authority currently takes Public Housing Applications on Monday through Thursday from 9:00 a.m. until 12:00 p.m.
Section 8 Applications are taken on Tuesday and Thursday from 9:00 a.m. until 12:00 p.m.
