Offering a little help on the side
Resident Services is pleased to offer a couple of programs that help stretch your food dollar. One is our food pantry, which is available to
all residents on a monthly basis. Each development has its own week of the month when residents may call and request a food box.
This program is a success due to many partnerships, including the help of many resident volunteers who help prepare and deliver the food boxes. If you need a food box and live in CARVER, PARKWAY OR DUNBAR, CALL THE FIRST MONDAY OF THE MONTH. If you live in KEYSTONE, CALL THE SECOND MONDAY. If you live in MEMORIAL PARK OR FAIRVIEW, CALL THE THIRD MONDAY. If you live in PINECREST OR LAKE TERRACE, CALL THE FOURTH MONDAY.
If you would like to help us make the food bank a success by volunteering, please call Resident Services at 926-3225.top of page
And for the kids …
Thanks to the hard work of each development’s Resident Council, Resident Services is able to offer an after-school snack program at
each Resident Center. A tasty, nutritious snack is available to all children weekday afternoons during the school year. The Resident Centers are open from 3-5:30 p.m. weekdays. If you don’t know where your center is located, call Resident Services. Each center offers MUCH MORE than just a snack. The various Resident Councils offer everything from weekly bingo games and bi-weekly dinners to seasonal parties, movie nights for kids and lots of other activities. In fact, every resident is encouraged to attend the monthly Resident Council meetings. And for the kids, there’s a whole lot more… top of page
Homework labs
During the East Tennessee State University school year, dozens of students volunteer at the Resident Centers, where they mentor and
build relationships with the kids. Each center is set up with its own “Homework Lab,” a place where the kids can play on the computers, do their homework, and get help with classwork if they need it. A variety of other educational materials are available at the centers.
The Resident Centers are a positive place for children to spend the afternoon. They are staffed by resident volunteers, and the Resident Council officers always have a need for more volunteer help. So, if you think you might be interested in getting involved in your development, stop in on a weekday afternoon or call the Department of Resident Services at 926-3225. You’ll be glad you did!top of page
Alone? In need? Worried? If we can help, we will.
Resident Services offers several programs that can get people help for a variety of needs. The Senior Options Services program
features an option of a daily reassurance call from a trained volunteer, home visits from nursing students and a monthly van trip to Wal-Mart for shopping. We work closely with ETSU’s School of Nursing and are trying to build an overall program that will help disabled and older folks stay in their homes and be satisfied there.
We also have available a Family Support Specialist. Available for almost any need call 926-3225 for a referral.top of page
